A personal laptop or work computer can easily become bogged down and slow if too many files are saved on it. That said, most of us don't have the dozen hours or so it would take to truly deep dive into the content to see what needs to stay and what can be deleted for good.

When we think of threats to our computers, we often think of cyber attacks, and for good reason. Not only do 60% of businesses go bankrupt after one cyber attack, but they are also becoming more common.
Super-Charge Your NAS Environment

All-flash storage and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) systems are delivering next-generation levels of performance, simplicity and reliability. Unfortunately, these benefits often elude storage-hungry NAS environments because they’re simply too big.
The key to making your NAS environment appropriate for all-flash configurations is to right-size it. That means making it small enough to cost-effectively live inside an all-flash footprint. So, how do you do that without throwing away files that still have business value? With DefendX, that’s how.
DefendX Mobility is an automated, policy-driven application that archives inactive files to more cost-effective storage tiers or cloud services. The result is a smaller, all-flash or HCI-friendly active file set that is still seamlessly connected to its archive storage systems. Now, all of the benefits of an all-flash storage environment can be extended to include your right-sized NAS environment too!
See Enterprise Strategies Group Paper on the subject here.

Managing and storing data online is pretty much a non-negotiable for businesses today. Cloud-based storage products such as Microsoft’s OneDrive certainly offer a lot to the beginning business owner, but there are definitely things to consider before making this your primary solution—especially if you think you’ll be scaling in the near future.
File tiering is new to most organizations. Given this, few people are experts in the technology. In fact, many of us are unsure of even what questions to ask. It turns out that there are several very important questions. A few features can make the difference between long-term success and a nightmare that gets worse every year.
NEVER ASSUME…
You might assume that every backup or tiering product makes a complete and correct copy of the files it touches… You can make that assumption, but you would be wrong. There are several backup products and tiering products that discard elements of your files, and even more that discard metadata.

As technology growth continues to pick up speed, more and more business owners will likely find themselves overwhelmed by the thought of having to control their data. The decision to delete, move and expand a file system can be rightfully stressful. And if a company has the hope of expansion, they will likely see themselves suffering with the growing pains involved in having to keep track and store files in some sort of organized fashion.
For years, software companies have centered their marketing around “data growth,” and recently this need has become a reality. It’s no surprise that there is an outpouring of clients who are struggling to determine which category to drop their data into. What to keep and what to get rid of is a common question amongst longtime business leaders who have watched their companies expand and collect data along the way.
It’s not surprising that the ‘cloud first’ mentality has become a common theme in the computer world, as it allows businesses to get their hands on top-rated technology with little effort. Since 2013, several software companies have made it their mission to provide a seamless transition into a ‘cloud first’ way of working. DefendX is proud to be a part of this transition and their flexible options offer more than one way of securing and archiving unstructured data.
Over the past decade, the phrase ‘cloud first’ has become common language among those involved in business technology. The term has developed a definition all on its own and essentially refers to cloud-based technology as being a leader in the industry. It has established itself in conversations regarding IT projects in industries across the board and has most recently become a trend to look out for in 2021.
