LOTS of Great Things Are Around 20 Years Old Now:

It doesn’t get hotter than this…
Major enterprises like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc. have all been pushing the “cloud.”
Storage scalability remains one of the more difficult challenges for administrators. As your company grows, so does the number of files and data stored on your network. Given that 40% of files are completely inactive, adding more storage space to account for unused junk files is a waste of money and time. It’s also a risk factor for outages. Wasted storage can quickly get out of control, and your company can wind up paying the price.
Storage, File Data Management, Storage Management, file data storage
Users with unlimited file data storage capacity really don’t understand the impact they have on the network. They see a network as a place for storing any number of files, including personal ones. In fact, it’s not unusual for an administrator to find all kinds of file data on network resources, including MP3, MOV, or even Torrent files. These personal files eat away at your primary storage space and increase the risk of an outage. But did you know that you can leverage user quotas to create awareness and educate users about the risks associated with poor file storage management?
It all comes down to creating a disciplined way of thinking about file data storage.
You may want to keep all information at your fingertips as your project is active, so you create a simple nomenclature and folder structure. Then you’ll begin sticking files in each of those folders and subfolders. You might even hoard your file data. File backup and tiering strategy may be a passing thought, but in reality, you ignore it and push to be “done later;” thinking that cost is relative and you have room on your SSD flash drive … and so it goes. You may conveniently forget how much the company invests in data infrastructure and what it costs to expand it in response to the user demand.
Whenever we review archive and primary storage, we like to reference Peter Krogh, a recognized photographer and pioneer of digital archiving. Krogh noted that there are two groups of people; those who’ve experienced a storage failure and those who will in the future.
Storage, File Data Management, file data tools, file data solutions
What’s the difference between a file data tool and a file data solution?
As enterprises and IT/storage administrators look for ways to better manage and organize their growing file volumes, file data tools can play an important role. But for optimal efficiency, there’s no match for a comprehensive enterprise unstructured file data solution.
Here are the key differences:
“Some things never change.”
It’s an old adage that you’ve probably heard many times. But we’re here to show file data storage has changed drastically. Just as all business technology has evolved, file data archiving and tiering has, too ― for the better. In fact, today’s file data archiving brings you benefits you may not have imagined even just a few years ago. From ending restrictive file vault access to accommodating billions of files, today’s data archiving solutions are strong and streamlined.
Storage, file storage, unstructured file data, reduce storage cost
In an ideal world, your high-performance primary tier is used exclusively for active files. Yet in practice, up to 80% of file data becomes stale but continues to reside in expensive primary storage. DefendX Software’s VFM can help you reduce storage costs through powerful and flexible file data tiering and archiving. It helps you avoid the “server sprawl” that happens when you continually purchase more hardware and capacity ― after all, not all of your file data is of equal importance.
